LESLIE TUCKER JENISON
Leslie Tucker Jenison is an award-winning contemporary quiltmaker from San Antonio TX. A surface design artist for 16 years, her work has been shown in local, national, and international venues. Leslie has been a guest on Fresh Quilting, Quilting Arts TV, and The Quilt Show. She has written for quilting magazines, has been a featured artist in numerous books, and has a workshop DVD with F&W media. Her work has been collected by a number of private and corporate clients. ”I make all kinds of quilts. I’m honest when I say that I have never met a quilt style I didn’t love”
Leslie was influenced by her paternal grandmother who was the seamstress in a small Midwestern town. Her grandmother’s home always had a quilt in a traditional frame suspended from the ceiling of a bedroom between quilting sessions. Years later, a nurse-colleague who made quilts became Leslie’s mentor.
After moving from Kansas to Texas Leslie began studying surface design and painting. For Leslie, creating unique hand-dyed and printed cloth became an integral part of the process for creating quilts. “Many of my fabric prints are created by using unconventional tools to make the shapes and marks. Truly, the language of my work is informed by the world around me. I can look endlessly at natural surfaces, man-made patterns, and the effects of time and pressure upon objects”.
Leslie is a member of The Modern Quilt Guild, International Quilt Association, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and is one-half of the curating-teaching duo that is Dinner At Eight Artists. Besides having a blast teaching and making art, she still considers herself a student of her art form. “I continue to study design and composition as it applies to art in general, quilts in particular”. Leslie enjoys photography, reading, gardening, traveling, and is a pilot. She is married and is a member of an excellent/eccentric family. Life is good!
